Security Credentials

PIN Management

Set and manage your Personal Identification Number (PIN) for physical access to facilities and identity verification when contacting support.

What is a PIN?

A PIN (Personal Identification Number) is a numeric code that provides an additional security layer beyond your badge. PINs are used for physical access to secure areas via keypads and for verifying your identity when contacting the helpdesk by phone.

PIN Use Cases

Physical Access

Use your PIN with badge readers and keypads to access secure areas within GridColo facilities

Identity Verification

Verify your identity when calling the helpdesk or security desk for support requests

Two-Factor Authentication

Provides an additional authentication factor alongside your badge for high-security areas

Managing Your PIN

Set PIN
Create your initial PIN

Choose a secure numeric PIN that you can remember but others cannot easily guess. Your PIN will be associated with your account at all sites where you have access.

Change PIN
Update your existing PIN

Change your PIN at any time for security reasons. You'll need to enter your current PIN before setting a new one.

Delete PIN
Remove your PIN

Remove your PIN if you no longer need it, though this may limit your access options at certain facilities.

PIN Requirements

Length

PINs are typically 4-8 digits depending on site-specific requirements. Check your site's security policies for exact requirements.

Security

Choose a PIN that's not easily guessable. Avoid obvious numbers like 1234, your birthdate, repeating digits, or sequential numbers.

Site-Specific vs. Shared

Depending on configuration, PINs may be site-specific (different PIN for each location) or shared across multiple GridColo sites.

Security Best Practices

Never Share Your PIN

Your PIN is a personal security credential. Never share it with anyone, including colleagues, support staff, or security personnel. GridColo staff will never ask for your PIN.

Change if Compromised

If you suspect your PIN has been compromised or someone may have observed you entering it, change it immediately through the portal.

Choose Memorable but Secure

Select a PIN you can remember without writing it down, but that others cannot easily guess. Avoid using obvious number patterns.

Important Security Notice

If someone asks for your PIN, it may be a security threat. GridColo support and security staff will never ask for your PIN over the phone, via email, or in person. If someone requests your PIN, refuse to provide it and contact GridColo security immediately to report the incident.
