Air, Liquid, and Hybrid Cooling for AI Infrastructure
The terms 'liquid-ready,' 'hybrid,' and 'direct-to-chip capable' mean different things. Here is how to read them.

Cooling terminology is often used loosely. Precise definitions help hardware and facility teams plan against the same assumptions.
Air-cooled
Heat is removed by air, typically with hot- or cold-aisle containment. Suitable for moderate densities.
Liquid-ready
The hall is designed to accept liquid cooling—space, structure, and piping pathways are provisioned—but distribution may not be installed.
Hybrid
Air and liquid cooling operate together with a documented ratio between them.
Direct-to-chip capable
Facility water and distribution are designed to support cold plates on processors. Confirm supply temperature, flow, and water quality requirements.
